Senate and House Resolutions Honor NARFE Centennial

Alexandria, Va.—Following the introduction of a House resolution in honor of NARFE’s centennial, NARFE National President Ken Thomas issued the following statement:

“For 100 years, NARFE has been fighting to preserve and enhance the earned pay and benefits of federal employees and retirees.

“When 14 federal retirees met February 19, 1921, to brainstorm better retirement prospects for civil servants, NARFE’s mission of advocacy was born. Today, NARFE continues to engage and educate lawmakers and the administration as a source of unparalleled counsel and unbiased information on federal pay and benefits. Working tirelessly to protect the financial security, health care accessibility and general well-being of Feds, NARFE delivers valuable guidance, timely resources and powerful advocacy.

“Now, as the association celebrates its first century of service, I am grateful for the support of Sens. Ben Cardin, D-MD, and James Lankford, R-OK, and Reps. Gerry Connolly, D-VA, and Brian Fitzpatrick, R-PA. Yesterday, Connolly and Fitzpatrick introduced H.Res. 131, recognizing the vital contributions NARFE and its members have made to the United States over the past 100 years; Cardin and Lankford will introduce a companion resolution when the Senate is in session next week.

“On behalf of the 5 million federal employees, retirees and their survivors represented by NARFE, I am honored that some of our most dedicated partners in Congress are publicly honoring NARFE on the occasion of this milestone anniversary.

“As NARFE reflects on its past, our association is already looking to the future and how we can best serve the federal community. We know our country will face new challenges, but we have faith that our dedicated federal workers can rise to the occasion and overcome any obstacles. NARFE, and its partners in Congress, will be with them every step of the way.”
